Editorial Rewrite
Materials typically enter a project after the initial spatial concept has been established. CAPELLAMORPH encourages designers to begin with the surface itself, considering color, light, and geometry as one cohesive architectural decision. Developed by SOL style in collaboration with Sirius Co., Ltd., this aluminum-composite sheet combines low weight, ease of workability, and a proprietary powder-coating process. Its significance lies in how these qualities work together. A single panel can carry a gradient, hold a fold, catch changing light, and extend across walls or ceilings as part of a broader spatial composition. The material's colour is never entirely fixed; gradients shift depending on the viewing angle, surrounding light, and the shape of the sheet itself. A fold can intensify one hue while deepening another into shadow, creating a new visual experience as people move through the space. The visual effect evolves with ordinary shifts in position and the passage of time. This gives CAPELLAMORPH an architectural character that goes beyond mere surface decoration. The colour comes from the coating, while depth is derived from the formed metal and its interaction with light. Features such as wrinkling, embossing, curves, and folds introduce additional variation, allowing a static material to create a dynamic atmosphere. For designers, the appeal of CAPELLAMORPH is both practical and aesthetic. The sheet can be shaped into sculptural forms while still allowing for manageable fabrication and installation. Custom lengths and seamless joining allow several panels to read as a single continuous surface, transforming the material from a singular feature into an architectural element. Its lightweight nature expands the range of potential applications, making ceilings, elevated walls, temporary installations, and larger suspended forms easier to handle and support. Additionally, its modularity allows sections to be replaced or updated, making the system adaptable to evolving interiors and event environments. The material is particularly effective in spaces where atmosphere is as important as function. For instance, a retail interior might use a gradual shift in colour to guide movement, while an exhibition setting could leverage the same surface to change between daylight and evening illumination. In a public space, a series of repeated folded panels could establish a rhythm without relying on screens or digital effects. CAPELLAMORPH also incorporates environmental considerations into its material system. The powder coating process reduces VOC emissions, aluminum offers a well-established recycling route, and the lower weight minimizes transport demands and the need for secondary support structures. These qualities link visual expression with efficiencies in fabrication, installation, and future replacement. The broader relevance of this material lies in its ability to consolidate functions. One surface can provide colour, texture, reflection, and three-dimensional form while remaining integral to a practical construction process. It offers architects and interior designers a material that can shape a room's atmosphere through shifting light and movement. CAPELLAMORPH transforms metal from a background finish into an active spatial medium. Its identity is defined by the interaction of colour, form, and time, giving designers a new way to create interiors that continue to evolve after installation.
Editor’s Review
The project’s key achievement is the effective integration of coating and form. Gradient colour is not just applied to a flat sheet; the folds and curves change how light reflects and casts shadows, allowing a single material to create various spatial effects.
The low weight and customizable joining methods give the proposal practical value. The panel can span across walls and ceilings while remaining manageable in production, transport, and installation.
The environmental impact is addressed through powder coating, recyclability, and material consolidation. The argument is strongest when CAPELLAMORPH replaces multiple decorative layers with a single, well-made surface.
Peggy’s Editor’s Note
New materials are often introduced based solely on their potential. However, CAPELLAMORPH is more compelling because its visual appeal is closely linked to its fabrication and installation. The gradient results from the coating, the shadow comes from the shaped sheet, and the continuity is achieved through a practical joining system. The true value of CAPELLAMORPH will ultimately depend on careful specification. When used judiciously, the panel can add light and colour, enhancing architectural depth; if overused, it risks becoming mere decoration. This productive tension is exactly why it is a material worth observing.
Image Analysis
IMAGE 01 — FULL GRADIENT SHEET A continuous color transition flows across the reflective metal surface. The finish varies in intensity depending on the viewer's angle, illustrating that the gradient is not perceived as a fixed graphic.
IMAGE 02 — CURVED SURFACE The panel bends in a broad arc, concentrating highlights along the crest while deepening the color in the recessed edge. The geometry of the panel provides a second optical structure to the coating.
IMAGE 03 — FOLDED PROFILE Sharp folds divide the gradient into several planes, with each face reflecting light differently. This creates distinct tonal zones without altering the material or adding separate finishes.
IMAGE 04 — TEXTURED FORM A more irregularly formed sheet features small ridges and valleys. Reflected light fragments across the surface, imparting a stronger sense of depth to the lightweight panel.
IMAGE 05 — CEILING APPLICATION Long sheets extend overhead, creating a continuous chromatic field. Their lightweight and connected dimensions allow the material to transform the space in a way that goes beyond a conventional wall finish.
IMAGE 06 — WALL INSTALLATION Multiple panels align across a larger surface, with the color transition continuing through the joints. This composition demonstrates how factory-sized sheets can become a canvas on an architectural scale.
IMAGE 07 — DETAIL OF POWDER-COATED METAL A close-up view reveals the color, metallic grain, and reflected surroundings within the same surface. The coating maintains the physical character of aluminum rather than concealing it completely.
IMAGE 08 — CHANGING LIGHT CONDITION The same formed surface is shown under different lighting conditions, highlighting shifts in color emphasis and shadow over time. This comparison illustrates passive responsiveness without the need for electronic control.
Drawing and Spatial Analysis
CAPELLAMORPH is available as aluminum-composite sheets measuring up to 950 millimetres in width and 3,500 millimetres in length. Custom dimensions can be achieved through on-site joining. The product can be kept flat or can be folded, curved, and textured. Its ability to retain its shape allows it to be used for wall linings, ceiling surfaces, screens, or sculptural elements. The lightweight construction reduces the load needed for installation at elevated heights, making it more feasible to create larger overhead compositions. The direction of the gradient can be coordinated across multiple sheets, ensuring that colour flows continuously throughout a room. Therefore, joint placement should be considered as part of the visual composition rather than just a technical seam. The angle and distance of lighting significantly affect the overall appearance. Grazing light highlights the folds and texture, while broader illumination reveals the colour transitions more evenly. This submission focuses on the product rather than a specific completed architectural site. The spatial analysis includes documented dimensions, form-making capabilities, and the potential interactions between panels, light, and surrounding surfaces.

Bringing Color and Light into Space
We introduce CapellaMorph, a new architectural material. It is a next-generation metal sheet that combines rich, gradient-based coloration through advanced powder coating with lightweight flexibility. By freely transforming its shape, CapellaMorph creates diverse visual expressions through color gradients and the refraction of light, becoming an active element in shaping space itself. Its light and supple nature ensures excellent workability, while moving beyond conventional two-dimensional finishes to enable three-dimensional control of color and light.
Rich Chromatic Expression
While traditional metal finishes rely on uniform, flat coatings, CapellaMorph utilizes proprietary gradient powder-coating technology. This enables subtle yet vivid transitions of color. The natural reflectivity and texture of the metal interact with light, causing its appearance to shift depending on the viewing angle, lighting conditions, and time of day. This brings a sense of visual vitality and continuous change to architectural spaces.
Lightweight and Easy to Install
Thanks to its aluminum composite structure, CapellaMorph is significantly lighter than conventional metal panels. This reduces structural load, simplifies installation on ceilings and walls, and improves on-site safety. Metal finishes that were previously difficult to apply across large areas or at height are now practical, greatly expanding the possibilities for spatial design.
Freely Transformable Forms
Beyond color expression, CapellaMorph supports three-dimensional form-making. The excellent form-retention properties of aluminum allow for folds, curves, and textured surfaces, enabling sculptural expressions beyond flat finishes. The material itself becomes a spatial element, where surface geometry and light interact to create rich shadows and depth.
Flexible Sizing
Sheets can be manufactured in custom lengths and seamlessly joined on site. Walls and ceilings can be treated as continuous canvases, enabling uninterrupted gradient expressions and cohesive spatial compositions. This opens new possibilities for spatial storytelling through surface design.
Sustainable
Environmental performance is also a key feature. The use of powder coating significantly reduces VOC emissions, while the aluminum substrate offers high recyclability. Its lightweight nature reduces transportation energy, and efficient installation minimizes construction waste. CapellaMorph achieves both high design quality and strong environmental performance.
Possibilities for Future Spaces
CapellaMorph represents a shift from static finishing materials to responsive surface materials where light, color, and texture interact. It enables the three-dimensional design of visual experiences and provides a new vocabulary of expression for the future of architecture and interior design.
